Escanaba Area Fishing Report

December 23rd, 2019

Little Bay de Noc
December 22, 2019
Walleye fishing remains hot on Little Bay de Noc with lots of anglers still reporting limit catches or near limit catches of eater sized fish with big fish mixed in. Jigging raps in sizes #7 and #9 along with #3 shiver minnows still seem to be the baits of choice. Different forms for set lines such as tip ups rigged with 5 to 6-inch sucker minnows have been catching fish too. Perch fishing has been hot for not just numbers of fish but some real quality fish as well and can be found in the same area as walleye. The best action remains to be along steep shoreline breaks and points in 20 to 37 feet of water, but fish can also be found out in the mudflats and around the various reefs that are present on the upper bay. Ice thickness on the Upper Bay (north of Gladstone) varies between 8 to 10 inches depending on the location.
