1-16-22 Great Lakes Bay Set up before daybreak about 40yards from where we new the crowd would be north of the Z-bridge. Started with full minnows, moderate jigging off bottom with #5 rap and #7 rap. Current was a little to stiff for spoons. Started to get hit as soon as sun started peeking. Had trouble hooking up so we went to 1/2 minnows. 1/2 minnows made the difference and we started taking consistent fish. #7 was out producing #5s so we all eventually had #7s on. As the sun rose and the bite slowed we went to minnow head only, aggressive jigging off bottom with small pauses after a 5 or 6 cadence and action picked right back up to non stop fish. Blue chrome #7 jigging rap was 💯 the best color, but other colors fire tiger, red chrome, wonderbread, Helsinki also took numerous fish. After we got our limit we played with spoons (J deez jammers and do jiggers) and while we were able to get fish it was difficult with the current today. We also ran deadsticks early rigged with slip bobber, Floro leader, red #10 treble hook, full minnow hooked in back 12†off bottom with some success.
We like to run 6# suffix ice braid, small barrel swivel, # 6 floro leader, w quick clips or small dual locks. 28â€-32†medium action rods
The highlight of of our day was myself and Jeff Schafer getting a perfect synchronized double right down the the hook sets and they were both keepers. The three of us probably landed between 60-70 fish.
Thanks for the great guest report Bryan
